The History of Robert Timms

In 1951 Robert Timms opened his first coffee roasting facility in Sydney. His approach was revolutionary; he sourced high-quality beans from around the world, roasted them locally, and delivered them fresh to cafes, restaurants and grocers.By the mid 1950's the Robert Timms brand was stocked in Woolworths, and other leading supermarkets, becoming a household name.

In later decades, The House of Robert Timms pioneered the use of individually wrapped coffee bags - a product that made real ground coffee accessible to people without espresso machines or plungers. These coffee bags became especially popular in:

  • hotel rooms
  • corporate offices
  • hospitality settings

The brand's coffee bags are often considered a premium alternative to instant coffee, and are still widely used in accommodation and commercial settings.
